I wanted to create a very strong portrait of this man, a classical pianist, whose hands are as striking as his penetrating gaze. He wore a black turtleneck sweater, so I could create a portrait that singled out his face and hands, with no other distractions. Backlighting highlights his silver-white hair, which creates excellent contrast in a black and white portrait.
